Cheapest domains

What are the cheapest domains?

Many domains are cheap only for the first year. There are some which remain cheap long-term: numeric .XYZ domains of the 1.111B Class and the European Union's own .EU.

.XYZ and the 1.111B Class

.XYZ is a generic top-level domain run by the registry XYZ.com. It has been open to everyone since 2014, with no restrictions on who may register or what the domain is used for. One of its best-known users is Google's parent company Alphabet, at abc.xyz.

The 1.111B Class is a set of .xyz domains that consist only of digits and are 6, 7, 8 or 9 digits long. There are 1,000,000 six-digit numbers, 10,000,000 seven-digit, 100,000,000 eight-digit and 1,000,000,000 nine-digit numbers, 1,111,000,000 domains in all. That is where the name comes from.

Numbers read the same in every language and alphabet, which makes numeric domains easy to remember and type around the world. They are especially popular in China and elsewhere in Asia. To make them available to everyone, the registry sells the whole class at one low, fixed price for both registration and renewal, with no premium surcharges.

NordName passes that price on to you: 2 EUR + VAT per year, every year you keep the domain. Want to buy it straight for 10 years; yes that is only 10 EUR + VAT.

.EU: Europe's own domain

.EU is the top-level domain of the European Union, run by the European registry EURid. It shows that you or your business are European.

A .eu domain can be registered by citizens of the EU and the EEA wherever they live, and by people and organisations based in the EU or the EEA.

The renewal price of .eu is low and does not jump after the first year. Pay by SEPA bank transfer and the price is even lower.
