Built for reliability

DNS is the foundation of the Internet, and everything depends on it. If it is slow, everything slows down. If it is down, everything is down. It is also easy to configure wrongly, and then things stop working. We keep it fast and running.

  • Anycast network

    Behind the same name server IP addresses there are more than 7 servers in different parts of the world. Queries go to the location nearest the user, which keeps answers fast. The network is fault-tolerant as well.

  • Full DNSSEC support

    We protect DNS zones with DNSSEC by default. We create the keys and publish the DS records for domains registered with us, so that DNS answers cannot be forged. Your users are safe.

  • DDoS protection

    Attack traffic is spread across the Anycast network, which makes it resilient. Our service keeps answering genuine DNS queries while it filters out the attack traffic.

  • Smart Records: GeoDNS and load balancing

    Answer with a different address depending on where the visitor is, or share traffic between several servers according to their weight.

  • Secondary DNS

    Use NordName to back up a primary name server that you run yourself. Your domains stay reachable even if one server has a bad day.

  • API and dynamic DNS

    Manage records in the client area or automate everything through the REST API. Keep changing IP addresses up to date with dynamic DNS.

What a smart record does

A normal DNS record gives every visitor the same answer. A smart record looks at who is asking. With GeoDNS, visitors from Europe can be sent to your Frankfurt servers and visitors from Asia to Singapore, so everyone talks to the server closest to them.

With load balancing, one name points to several servers in the proportions you choose. Combine load balancing with GeoDNS and you have regional groups of servers behind a single address.
